Prospecting when you also do the work.

The short answer

For a solo seller, prospecting is not volume. Pick ten accounts you really want, write one useful note to each, and protect two fixed selling blocks a week from client work. Follow up within 48 hours of every conversation. Ask every happy client for one introduction. That is a pipeline you can keep.

The problem with prospecting advice

Most prospecting advice is written for sales teams with a quota and a full day to fill it. A founder or consultant sells between deliveries. When the work gets busy, selling stops, and three months later the pipeline is empty. The answer is not more activity. It is a small system that survives a busy month.

A week that works

WhenWhat
MondaySet the goal: about ten buyer conversations this week, counting follow ups.
Tuesday 08:00 to 10:00Selling block. New notes to target accounts, calls booked.

Thursday 08:00 to 10:00Selling block. Follow ups, introductions, proposals.

Ten accounts, one note each

Write down the ten companies you would most like to work with. For each, find the person who owns the problem you solve, and write one note that shows you understand their situation. No attachments, no deck, one question at the end.

“I work with construction firms of about your size on project overruns. Most of them lose more on change orders than they expect. Is that something you're looking at this year?”

Ten good notes beat two hundred templates. When one account says no, replace it.

Introductions beat cold notes

The best source of new deals for most consultants is a happy client. Ask every one of them, at the moment they are happiest, for one name: “Who else do you know who has the same problem we just fixed?” Then ask them to write the introduction, not just share the email address.

Qualify before you chase

A full pipeline of curious people is worse than a short one of buyers. Interest is not pain. Give inbound leads a 20 minute call where you agree the goal of the meeting up front, and use MEDDPICC to decide who gets a proposal.

How Allin uses it

Allin Sales Brain plans the week with you on Monday, drafts the notes to your ten accounts, and holds you to the plan on Friday. It also writes the follow up after each meeting, so the 48 hour rule actually happens.

Questions

Short answers.

How do I build a sales pipeline as a solo consultant?

Choose ten target accounts, protect two selling blocks a week, follow up within 48 hours, and ask for one introduction from every satisfied client. Review the list every Friday.

How many prospects should a consultant contact per week?

Enough to reach about ten real buyer conversations a week. For most solo sellers that means a handful of new contacts and a lot of follow ups, not hundreds of cold emails.

Is cold outreach dead for B2B services?

Mass outreach performs badly. A short, specific note to a person you have researched still works, especially when it names a problem you have solved for a similar company.

What is ABM light?

Account based marketing scaled down: a short list of named accounts, each getting attention that is written for them, instead of a campaign sent to everyone.
